What Does Pain Mean?

What Is PainHave you ever owned a dog?

Think about a time that your dog was trying to communicate with you.  Did your dog pace back and forth?  Or did he bark?  Maybe he brought you his toy when he wanted to play?

Dogs can’t speak English, but they know how to get very creative when they’re trying to get our attention, right?

Well, what if our body is doing the same thing?

Take a moment to think back on your day.  Did you notice any pain or discomfort in your body?

Did you ignore that discomfort (like most people do)?

What if the pain and discomfort we feel in our body Continue reading

is like a dog pacing back and forth to the door?  What if discomfort is the body’s way of communicating with us…its way of trying to get our attention about something that needs attending to, just like our dog?

If we look at discomfort being a sign of something amiss in the body, then when pain comes up in our body, we could take a moment to try to determine what our body is trying to communicate to us.

What would your body be saying to you?

Take a moment now and close your eyes.  Go back to a time when you were experiencing discomfort in your body.  Then ask your body, “Body, what were you trying to tell me?”

And just remain quiet until you get some sort of response.  Let your quiet awareness be your guide.  You may have a vision, or a memory of some sort, or a flash from your intuition. Or you might even remember a conversation, or something you saw on TV.

The response you receive may or may not make any logical sense to you right now.  Let that be ok.  What came to your awareness is connected to what your body was trying to communicate to you via the discomfort that you were having.  It will make sense, given time.

Our body is a sensing organism.  Our body is an incredibly intelligent tool that exists to give us, the Being, feedback about all that is going on in our surroundings.  Our mind (a data filtering tool) plays a big part in what actually gets through to our conscious awareness and what doesn’t.  If the mind has been programmed to filter out the signals coming from our body, then signals like pain, hunger, thirst, etc. get blocked from coming to our conscious awareness.

Many of us have stress-filled lives.  We have too many things to do, and not enough time.

When our minds get programmed to delete or dim down signals coming from the body, then we become disconnected from these signals.  And just like our pets, if the body can’t get our attention right away, what is the body then going to do?

It’s going to speak more loudly.

Pain and discomfort arise for many reasons.  Maybe you’ve been pushing too hard, and your body needs more rest or more frequent breaks.
Maybe you’re not feeding your body enough nurturing foods, and instead eating too much comfort food to detach from stress or other emotions.
Maybe your body is dehydrated and would like more water to replenish its resources.

Or you may be experiencing your body communicating with you about other imbalances:

Is your career path creating happiness and fulfillment for you?
Are there negative emotions or thoughts that keep circling through you?
Are there important needs and desires that you have not allowed yourself to express?
Is your outlook positive and hopeful?
Are you hanging on to the past, or do you frequently worry about the future?
Are your relationships fulfilling and nurturing, or are there people that drain you of energy?
Are you confident about meeting your goals, or do you feel stressed out about them?

Our thoughts and emotions are stored in our body.  If there are many negative thoughts or emotions going through us, the body may be trying to communicate that to you through signals of pain and discomfort.

Here’s a simple Self-Awareness tool that takes 30 seconds:

When you have a quiet moment (lock yourself in the restroom if you need to),
Sit comfortably, and close your eyes.
Begin scanning your body from your feet upwards.
When you get to a spot on your body that is uncomfortable, ask that part of your body, “What one small thing can I do to help you be more comfortable?”
Pay attention to the very first thing that your quiet awareness shares with you.  This information will be what you’re seeking.
After you’ve obtained a response, pay very close attention to any negative thoughts about the response, such as, “I can’t do that.  I’m too busy right now.”
Allow any negative thoughts to pass on by, and instead ask your body, “What is the easiest way for me to _____________.” (fill in the response you got from the previous question).
And wait quietly for the answer.
Follow this answer and implement it.

By using this Self-Awareness Tool regularly, you will be learning how to interpret your body’s signals, much as we do with our pets.  You’ll develop a 2-way communication with your body.  And the result will be that you will experience much less pain and discomfort in your body.

Let your body’s wisdom be your guide.

Natural Bug Repellent

Natural Bug RepellentI’m often asked “Why don’t those pesky bugs bite you, Sandy?”

My reply is Vitamin B1.  By taking B1 on a daily basis, the bugs may circle you, but they won’t bite.  This includes mosquitos, flys, gnats, no-seeums, etc.

Vitamin B1 – Thiamin, is a water soluble vitamin, which means your body does not store it.  So no worries of it building up in your system.

According to The University of Maryland Medical Center, Thiamin is important for converting the carbohydrates that we eat into fuel for our body to run on.  It also strengthens the immune system, and the B Vitamins in general are known as “anti-stress” vitamins.

And for me, one of the best benefits of B1 is Continue reading

that I no longer get bit by mosquitos and such, because I no longer have “sweet blood”, as it’s called.

How I did it:  Start by taking 1 50mg capsule 3 times a day for a few days, and then reduce the dosage over the next few days to 1 capsule 2 times a day, then to 1 capsule per day.  You’ll notice after a few days to a week of regular usage that bugs will still come around you, but they will bite you less and less.

Stay at 1 50mg capsule per day as long as the bugs continue not to bite.  If you miss a day, no worries.  If you miss multiple days, you may want to then take 1 capsule 2 times a day for 2 days to rebuild the repellant action.  Then return to 1 capsule per day.

Also, Mint repels many bugs, including the ones that like to bite.  Mint also repels rats, but that’s another post altogether.

How I do it:  Always plant mint in pots in areas where it can take over.  Mint can quickly become invasive in some areas.  Check with your local garden supply to make sure.

Plant mint(s), there are lots of varieties, in pots, and group the pots in areas where you like to be that you do not want the bugs to be.

Citronella is another good bug-repellant plant.  It is one of the main ingredients in mosquito repellents.

Marigolds also repel bugs.  They contain pyrethrum, which is found in many insect repellents.

What Is Fear?

What Is FearWhat is Fear?

Fear.  It’s a part of daily life.  Everyone has fears.  And there are a seemingly infinite variety of fears, whether it’s a fear of doing something new, fear about what other people think, fear of losing a job, fear that our kids won’t grow up to be better off than us, fears about our health….and an ocean of additional fearful thoughts that people have every day.

But, what is fear?

Re-reading the last part of the last sentence in the above paragraph again will give us a clue.

…an ocean of additional fearful THOUGHTS.

This is a key to fears.  They are thoughts.

How many thoughts do you have in any given day?  According to the National Science Foundation, the average person has about 50,000 thoughts per day.   That holds the potential for a lot of fearful thinking going on!

Most people know that they shouldn’t listen to their fearful thoughts, but the big question is, Continue reading

how does one stop these fearful thoughts?

To grasp how to move beyond fears, we need to understand how fears come about in the first place.

Firstly, our body is a sensing organism…like an antenna.  All the energies flowing within and around us are received as data through the body’s senses or “antennae.”

Secondly, our mind is a data filtering tool that labels, organizes, and otherwise makes sense of what the body is receiving as data. Put another way, the mind characterizes the incoming energies we sense with our body.  How the mind does this is based on our past experience.

This is a key:  The mind works based on our past, and what we’ve been focusing our energy on determines how the mind processes the incoming data. Any data that the mind doesn’t know what to do with is either ignored, labeled as false, or is lumped in with what the mind determines to be past data that is similar.

Thirdly, the human being, overall, is designed to create.  The being takes all the incoming sensory data and information and uses it to create.

Creating has nothing to do with the past, except to utilize components of the past, combined with current incoming sensory data, to create something new.

Creation, for which we are designed, is concerned with, and focused on, the now and the new…not the past.

So…how do we go from having fearful thoughts to thinking, feeling, and being more confident?

In a word: Focus.

The mind filters all current incoming data based upon programming from what we’ve been focusing on.  And, left without supervision, the mind will continue circling in the past forever.

We break the mind out of its “rut” by utilizing the tool of focus.

This is a key.  How we program, or “tune,” the mind, is by what we focus our awareness on. Consciously changing what we focus on changes the mind’s programming, and changes our thoughts and how the data coming in from the body is filtered, sorted, and labeled.

As we change our focus, our filters get adjusted in the mind accordingly.  How the data is selected, processed, and labeled changes, resulting in a shift in our thoughts about our experience.

By using our power of focus, we are therefore much more in control of our mind, and what thoughts we have, than we realize.

Our mind is a tool for us to use.

This is worth repeating:  Our mind is a tool for us to use.

To shift from fearful thoughts to confident thoughts and beliefs, it is necessary for us to begin consciously using our mind as the tool it was designed to be for us…instead of allowing the mind to use us.

We have power over how we program our mind, and while reprogramming the mind takes effort, it is doable, as every happy, successful, and confident person will attest to.

What we think and believe ultimately determines what data is allowed into our awareness and how we characterize what we sense into thoughts.

Going a step deeper, what we choose to consciously focus on creates the filters that create our thoughts and beliefs – what our experience is, and how our experience gets labeled and organized.

Recognizing that our mind is based in the past, while we are meant to be in the now, creating for the future, we can see how, without consciously applied effort, our mind can keep us surrounded in limiting thoughts, beliefs, and fears.

If you’re experiencing fears that you feel unable to move beyond, I invite you to contact me for a complimentary consultation regarding a phone or skype session to release the underlying thought process(es) that are entrapping you and keeping you from moving forward in your life in a confident way.

Temporal Bone Dysfunction and Vertigo & Migraines – Are They Linked?

temporal boneStudies have confirmed that the Temporal Bones play a part in many types of headaches and vertigo.  The temporal bones are the bones behind the ears; they attach at the jaw as well.

A report by Dr. Magoun in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association states “Physicians knowledgeable about osteopathic theory and procedures in the cranial field have found it possible Continue reading

to relieve many conditions that result from abnormalities in the position and motion of temporal bones. …deviations of these bones may be responsible for migraines, vertigo…”

Having a Migraine, with the associated pounding pain, nausea, and visual and sensory issues is debilitating.  I know.  My mother used to have Migraines.

Thankfully she doesn’t recall ever having Vertigo with a Migraine.  She had some pretty bad attacks that kept her in bed for days, curtains drawn, with urgent visits to the bathroom.

Imagine for a moment, feeling like you’d rather die than endure another moment of that pain…and on top of all that hell having the world reeling and keeling around you…even while lying still.

Nausea is one thing, and it’s terrible combined with debilitating pain.  Having Vertigo with a Migraine has to be, in my opinion, a form of h*&l.

People who suffer from Vertigo aren’t able to drive, or walk, or even sit up or move in many cases, depending on the severity.

One type of Vertigo occurs when the crystals in the inner ear canal get displaced and stuck in the wrong position.  Another type of vertigo can occur from debris lodged in the inner ear canal, typically from some type of head trauma.

In my clinical experience, I have seen many, many patients with Migraines, and many patients with Vertigo.  And along the way, I’ve seen patients exhibiting both sets of symptoms together.

While I’m not a research scientist, I do have a “laboratory”, known as my office.  I’m happy that the medical journals have been documenting what I’ve observed in my own “lab”.  Temporal bone dysfunction relates to both Migraines and Vertigo, and that by releasing the dysfunction, allowing the temporal bones to return to optimal functioning, Migraines and Vertigo can be a thing of the past.

If you have Vertigo and/or Migraines and medications are not completely relieving your symptoms, or the medications help, but the symptoms return at other times, then you are a good candidate for CranioSacral Therapy.

The Sphenoid Bone, A Cornerstone of Health

sphenoid boneThe Sphenoid Bone is located behind the eyes, forming part of the eye socket.  It is shaped somewhat like a butterfly, and connects with all the other bones in the head.  The sphenoid bone’s importance as it pertains to one’s health is widely recognized by CranioSacral Therapists and those involved in Osteopathic Medicine.  Based on its location, the sphenoid bone can have an influence on the hormones, the glandular system via the pituitary gland, the flow of blood and nutrients to and from the brain, and the entire nervous system.

One of the bones with which the sphenoid bone connects is the Occiput.  The occiput forms part of the floor of the skull at the back of the head, just above where the head meets the neck.  The Sphenoid bone, together with the Occiput, form the SphenoBasilar Joint or “SBJ”.  The rhythmic movement of the SBJ is considered integral to Continue reading

health, as it is the SphenoBasilar Joint that supports the movement of fluids, nutrients, and information to and from the brain and spinal cord.

The SBJ can become dysfunctional from a variety of life experiences, such as head trauma (even minor bumps on the head can throw the SBJ functioning off), jaw imbalances, braces, tmj dysfunction, tooth malocclusion, falls, sports injuries, and accidents.

When there is a dysfunction of the SphenoBasilar Joint (SBJ), a variety of symptoms can arise, including:

● Headaches
● Migraines
● Neck Pain
● Back Pain
● Pain Syndromes
● Sensory issues (imbalances related to vision, hearing, touch, speech, taste, or smell)
● Allergies
● Sinus issues
● TMJ Dysfunction (Jaw Issues and Pain)
● Endocrine and Hormonal Imbalances (thyroid, adrenals, reproductive organs)
● Learning Disabilities
● Reading Problems
● Personality Disorders
● OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)
● Emotional Imbalances
● Memory Issues
● Tremors, tics
● Tinnitus
● Scoliosis
● Depression
● Anxiety
● Insomnia and other Sleep Imbalances

In some cases, after an accident, one could have a vague sense that “something isn’t quite right”, yet scans and tests by your doctor come back inconclusive.  This vague feeling that defies detection and diagnosis of the underlying problem, could very well be related to a SphenoBasilar Joint dysfunction.

Addressing and releasing dysfunctions of the Sphenoid and SphenoBasilar Joint is gentle, non-invasive, and relaxing.  If you are experiencing any of the above health concerns, and your current method of treatment(s) is not helping as much as you’d like, CranioSacral Therapy may be of benefit to you.

Love Is All Around You

Hearts ImageHappy Valentine’s Day!

I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
Love is all around me
and so the feeling grows
It is written on the wind,
it’s everywhere I go…

This famous song by The Troggs is a catchy tune.  It’s one of those songs.  You hear a bit of it, and you will find yourself singing or humming it all day.  But do you really believe it?

Do you truly believe that love is all around you?

It’s so easy to Continue reading

get caught up in a daily routine.  To drown in the minutia of getting things done…meetings, deadlines, working, taking care of others, and trying to catch just enough sleep before waking up and doing it all again.

Stop.  Just stop.  Take a little break.  Take a deep breath.  Relax with me just a minute.

Now look around?  What do you see?  Who are you with?

Are you surrounded by co-workers?  Despite work-based roles, these are people like you…human beings striving for the best existence possible. You have more in common than you might imagine.

Are you with your parents? These are the people who represent your roots.  They gave you life and whether they were great parents or lousy parents, they set you forth on your path.

Are you with your kids? Yes, maybe they drive you nuts sometimes, but even the wildest child is adorable when asleep. (I know I was!)  Your little ones are your legacy.  Every ounce of love you pour into them shapes a whole new life.

Are you with friends?  These are your chosen companions along your journey.  They are those special people who laugh with you, inspire you, share with you, and pick you up when you need it.

Are you with your soul mate?  This is a person that walks alongside you on your everyday path…a person who connects very deeply with you.  They co-author the story of your life.

Are you with your pet? This is the purest form of unconditional love.  Your pets trust you with their very existence.  In return for sustenance and shelter, they give you infinite, uncomplicated adoration.  You are the center of their universe.

Are you with yourself?  Being alone with yourself is quite different than being lonely.  Lonely implies that you are cut-off, disconnected, isolated…and you are not.  You are part of an amazingly alive universe that is constantly moving, shifting, and transforming in unique and wonderful ways!

The Fear Of Money

Money ImageWhat’s in your pocket…lint or presidents?

I wear many hats these days.  I’m a speaker, an author, a Life & Wellness Coach, a CranioSacral Therapist, an educator… but really at the core of it all – I am a healer.

So you might wonder why, as a healer, am I sending you an email about money?

It’s simple. A lack of money can negatively impact your health and overall well-being.  Since my mission in life is to contribute to your continuing optimal health and well-being, I would like to share with you some insights about money.

You may have heard it said that your beliefs about money are the main force behind how much money you have or don’t have.  Your beliefs about money are Continue reading

more powerful than your work ethic, the hours you put in, or even the education or training you have.

With few exceptions, most people want more money.  Money enables us to live in a secure home, to feed ourselves and our family, to maintain our health, to clothe and educate ourselves, and even sleep more soundly at night, knowing all is well taken care of.  Still, many of us deem money as evil and/or consider a desire for money to be wrong or a moral weakness.

Consider the word “abundance”.  While this is a valid term and inherently represents more than just monetary wealth, it’s used by some as a feel-good replacement label for the word money.  Why is that..?

We’ve grown afraid of money.Money

On one hand, we desire money in a practical sense, on the other we judge ourselves harshly for wanting money.

How do you balance an “attitude of gratitude” with “Please Universe, may I have some more?”  Many people, trying to focus on gratitude, have developed a sense of guilt in desiring money.

Some try to solve this by using the term “abundance” in place of the word “money.”  Others compromise with money, by asking for “just enough”.  But the underlying negative or fearful attitudes toward money are still there and are controlling your cash-flow.

Having conflicted feelings about money is often experienced by those who are pursuing a spiritual path.  And there are some who find themselves in a position of lack and choose to resent those who have more, developing a hateful attitude towards people who seem to have plenty of money. Instead of celebrating the fact that money is flowing all around and shifting their belief systems to enable themselves to tap into that flow, they criminalize wealth, condemn the rich, and curse money as the root of all evil.  Have these thoughts ever crossed your mind?

If you feel negative about money and the concept of having money, how can you ever attract more of it into your life?

Your beliefs impact the fullness of your pocket.  Is your pocket rustling with pictures of presidents or holding a lint reunion?   If you have more lint than presidents, it may be time to take a long, honest look at your feelings and viewpoints about money.

Lack of money can lead to frustration, stress, anxiety, conflict in relationships, and poor health.  Achieving wellness means that you’re healthy in all areas of your life: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and economic.

Money problems, like a disease, will make you sick.

The good news is that just like many diseases; a lack of money is both preventable and curable!

If you’re ready to learn how to create, not block, your cash flow, join me on February 16th for a liberating, one-day BARS Class.

Or contact me at (727) 415-4772 for a complimentary consultation to discuss what is holding you back from having all you want, and the steps forward to living the life you truly desire.

Your Desires Can Become Reality

Happy ImageAre you aware that your desires really CAN become REAL for you?

A few weeks ago I extended an invitation to my January 19th Event – A New Year, A New You in 2013.  On the flyer was the word Imagine:

Imagine shifting into freedom, abundance, health…
Imagine having lasting energy…
Imagine having the life you desire….

Why am I focused on that word?  Because today, there are people who no longer have to imagine.   I am thinking of the attendees of the January 19th Event who Continue reading

opened themselves to greater possibilities, allowed their inner guidance to come forth, and released what was weighing them down.

  • A couple, struggling with trust issues and considering divorce dove deep under the surface, achieved true forgiveness and have reconciled.
  • A mother, anxious about her children’s imminent departure to college, worked through her emotions, grounded herself in peace and calm, and learned tools to keep her kids true to themselves in their new environment.
  • A professional, overwhelmed with worry and a busy life, released stress, cleared barriers, and shared feeling twenty pounds lighter at the end of the day.

Today, there is a group of people who are no longerwishing for a better life...
They are, right now, living their desired life –their desires have become their reality.

These are just a few of the powerful shifts that resulted in desires becoming reality!  It is an incredible privilege and humbling experience to facilitate this kind of personal transformation.

We are created to live with joy, with health, and in abundance.  That is the true nature of our Being.

When we get off track, or sidelined by an overwhelming experience that traps us in fear or uncertainty, that’s when we need someone to help us find our way back to our truth.  I am honored to have been that person for the wonderful, precious attendees on Jan 19th.  I will be honored to be that facilitator of positive, lasting change for you.

We create our reality every day.  Every decision we make, every time we take on a limiting point of view, we reinforce belief systems that hold us back from living the life we truly desire.  In times of stress, anxiety, fear, or doubt, we block our own internal guidance and become more and more disconnected from our truth — and from a healthy, joyful, abundant life.

Is it time for you to release what is holding you back, so you can live the life you truly desire?

I invite you to join me on February 16th for a one-day Access BARS class.  You’ll release old beliefs and points of view that are no longer serving you – like deleting old files off your computer.

At minimum, you’ll feel lighter, you’ll think clearer, and you’ll come away feeling relaxed and refreshed.

At best, your whole life could change!

And if you’d like to start moving forward sooner, contact me at (727) 415-4772 for a complimentary consultation to discuss what you desire in your life and what steps would best serve you.

It’s time to go beyond imagining and start making your desires reality!

Creating The Change You Desire

Steps ImageDo you ever spend time imagining a different life?

Do you find yourself daydreaming about having more money, being thinner, traveling more, or meeting that special someone….?  Do you have life goals that you keep putting off until “someday”?  If you think about things being different, perhaps being better, then I have great news for you.  You have already taken a step towards your “desired life”.

It may be that Continue reading

your life is already wonderful and you just want to add new adventures. Or perhaps your life isn’t so wonderful and you know that you must make changes. Regardless of your starting point, the awareness that you desire something more is a powerful force.  Everything we have, everything we experience…it all starts with a thought.

Being aware that you desire something more is the first step towards creating it.

The next step can be a bit trickier.  Thinking is free, it’s private, and it’s mostly effortless.  Transforming a thought into reality…now that takes action.  Action is no longer private.  Often it is witnessed by others and it requires energy, commitment, and courage.  To achieve the life you desire, you must be willing to experience the challenges, set-backs, failures, and even scarier in many ways – you must be willing to accept outrageous success!

If you’ve been thinking about making positive changes in your life, but you keep getting stuck when it comes time to act, or your actions haven’t gotten you to what you desire, then you may need a little help.  It’s amazing what can be accomplished when you surround yourself with people who can show you the way and support your transformation!

Imagine receiving unconditional support to be the person YOU want to be and create the life YOU desire!

If you’re ready to see your dreams become reality, I invite you to join me for a One-Day Transformational Workshop on Saturday, January 19th.  Join me in a supportive, positive environment where you will release all that has been blocking you and move into:

  • Discovering your true natural state ofABUNDANCE
  • Breaking FREE from overwhelm and stress
  • Feeling a lasting sense of PEACE and CALM
  • Shifting into increased FREEDOM, ABUNDANCE, HEALTH
  • Having sustained vibrant ENERGY each day, all day

It’s time to create the change you desire. It’s time to CREATE THE LIFE YOU DESIRE!   I promise you that this will be a day you will remember for the rest of your life!

Opening To Possibilities

Do you remember your first bike?

Imagine that your first bike was a beautiful Strawberry Shortcake, banana seat, one-speed with a white basket and a bell. You found new freedom by venturing out of your parents view to ride the around the block.   You dinged your bell, pedaled your heart out to feel the breeze in your face, and laughed with glee when speeding downhill.  Your bike brought you joy and adventures.

A few years later Continue reading

, you received a new bike.  While you may have missed that basket from time to time, the coolness of your new, slim, ten-speed bike quickly made up for any lack of storage.  Suddenly, you were setting new speed records for riding around the block.  You felt powerful, sleek, and fast.   Even though you were riding around the same ol’ block, you were experiencing a whole new level of joy.  You weren’t stuck in one speed anymore.  You could go so much faster with less effort on your new bike because you shifted.

As a Healer and Life & Wellness Coach, I find that being able to shift our view of our self and our surrounds is fundamental toward achieving greater joy, wellness, and abundance in life.  Shifting is the ability to get into a new gear and open yourself up to new possibilities, even when circumstances in life remain the same.

Shifting creates the changes you need to reach the next level of your desired life experience.

While there is an infinite amount of positive energy just waiting for you to reach for it, step into it, and be a part of it, often we are so bogged down in what we consider our reality, that we don’t realize that what we truly desire is right there…within our reach.  All we have to do is shift gears!

Here’s an example:  I recently needed a certain type of service provider.  After doing an online search, I discovered that the best place was just a mile from my home.  I had driven by this establishment hundreds of times, yet I had never really seen it.  It wasn’t part of my reality or awareness.   Once my awareness shifted, voila!  there was my solution both close and convenient!

Shifting can be as easy as changing your awareness.  Opening your eyes and mind and absorbing more of what is around you.

On the other hand, sometimes being able to shift your view of things can prove to be more elusive, and you need to learn effective ways to move beyond your limited reality to become aware of more…more of what is truly possible in your life!

Learning to live more joyfully, with ease and gratitude, can be one of the most fulfilling discoveries of your life!

Everything you desire is available to you.  The question is, are you open to possibilities?

Beat The Heat

Summer Beach ImageIt’s shaping up to be a very hot summer. Here are some tips to stay cool as the mercury rises:

1.  Stay hydrated – drink at least 60-80 oz of water each day.  Our body sweats more in hot weather, so it’s much easier to become dehydrated – and overheated.

Tip:  Keep a gallon bottle of water nearby, and refill your portable bottles frequently.

2.  Stay cool – wet and Continue reading

wring out a small hand-towel. Place the towel around your neck if you begin to feel too warm.  Re-wet it frequently.  Doing this will help you feel more comfortable & may reduce your body temperature to a more optimal level.

Tip:  When traveling, hiking, or engaging in sports, keep the towel in a gallon ziploc bag for convenience.  Keep it moist, and use it often.

3.  Go Barefoot – yep, that’s right…take off your shoes.  For most of us, adjusting the temperature of our feet helps the rest of our body be more comfortable.

Tip:  Keep a pair of stylish, but comfortable flip-flops handy, and change into them if you start to feel uncomfortably warm.
By following these tips, you’ll find yourself more able to handle the heat this summer.

Sum, Sum, Summertime!

Summer PicnicIt’s coming up summer all over the place! The kids are out of school and it’s time for some fun and R&R. While many will be traveling to far-off parts, there are also a wide variety of inexpensive activities to get involved in and place to visit this summer.

From family picnics at a local park to a romantic weekend get-away to Siesta Key in Sarasota, everyone can find something to soothe and nurture your harried soul.

Here are some suggestions: Continue reading

Pack a picnic, a blanket, a kite or frisbee, and go to an area park for the day. Just the 2 of you? Enjoy a nap or read a good book. Bringing the kids? Pack a soccer ball and a kite. Bring simple foods and lots of water too.
Take a drive to somewhere new. Bring some water and healthy snacks. Pile in the car and head off with only a general direction in mind. Go somewhere you’ve not been and when you get there, go exploring. Drive around. Browse the shops. Visit something unusual.
Enjoy a leisurely Sunday brunch at your favorite bistro, followed by music in the park. Bring some comfy chairs or a blanket, and let the day gently take you with it. (This is a great way to bond with your special someone after a hectic week.)

Up for something different? Go to an Arts & Crafts Show. Or go kayaking and pack a nice lunch to enjoy afterwards. Maybe bring a fishing pole and cast a line in the water.

I hope this is helpful, and would enjoy your feedback.
